Powder Coating

What exactly is powder coating?

Powder coating can trace its roots back to the 1940's. It took its stride in the 1980's and never looked back.

Powder coating is used worldwide and continues to develop as a coating technology.

Powder coating is applied using a specialised spray gun which is electrically charged. The item being powder coating is also electrically charged attracting the powder onto its surface. The powder is delivered in a granular form which comprises of various components such as binders, resins and fillers.

The item being coated is placed in a spray booth which recovers any waste powder during the process and removes excess powder from the environment.

After the powder coating is applied to the part it goes through an oven heating process that cures and melts the powder into a smooth film on the surface of the part.
